MN Book Signing: JOURNEYS TO I DO

Our Dreams Are Seen in 2014

God has blessed our family to see our dreams/visions in 2014.  Mama always said, "when God blesses you, write down your blessings and share it with others".  This year we are writing down all family dreams/visions that has come to pass in 2014. When your dream/vision has been accomplished in 2014, email it to us at gunitedone@gmail.com so we can post it here on our family blog.

Thank you Lord for allowing our family to see the following dreams/visions this year:
  • Phillip & Janice Porter, Vonzella Watson & Vanessa Patterson was blessed to write and launched a new book "Journeys To I Do: True LOVE Stories that SURVIVED This & That of Life" on Valentine's Day 2014.
  • Janice Porter was selected to be the Grand Marshal at the Rev. Dr. MLK Celebration in Jackson, Mississippi - January 17-20.  This was a great celebration for the entire family.
  • On January 15, 2014, family member Lauren Green reporter for Fox News Channel was one of three musicians, and along with a tenor, who performed a private classical music concert for the 90th birthday celebration at the Vatican for Georg Ratzinger, the Pope emeritus' brother. The one-of-a-kind opportunity ended with an equally rare photo opp.  Also Lauren had the chance to sit next to Benedict XVI.  Congratulations Lauren!!  This was truly a dream come true for Lauren and the entire family.  http://youtu.be/m9pvZWQcrBA

 The Gospel Institute Summer 2012

The Gospel Institute is a one-week residential discipleship program sponsored by Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN (http://www.greatfriend.org/).  It is housed at Three Crosses Retreat Center in Cannon Falls, MN (http://www.threecrosses.org/), and served five young men ages (13-18) during its pilot summer 2012.

Our summer vision was to support Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in its faithful labor of biblically addressing the pertinent needs of youth in the community.  We are confident that this one-week can be a catalyst to academic, profession, and personal well being and success.

This is a particular objective to satisfy our larger institutional mission of “Glorifying God by communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ as found in the Bible clearly and effectually to young men that they might by the grace of God treasure Christ supremely.”  The primary mode we communicate the goal is through five main pillars brotherhood, intense daily instruction, political engagements, university tours, and artistic exposure. Please consider partnering with us in the service of our young men.

If you would like to bring The Gospel Institute to your church or community organizations contact Derek! Now accepting donations to support The Gospel Institute in 2013.  Thank you for your support!

Derek Porter: The Gospel Institute is directed by Derek Porter, a student at Yale Divinity School and a 2010 graduate of the University of Saint Thomas.  At Saint Thomas, Porter was the secondary education undergraduate representative on the Teacher Advisory Council from 2008-2010.  In this position, he advocated for his peers before university professors, the chairman of the School Education, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) representatives.   During the summer proceeding and following his senior year, Porter was selected from 300 young black male college applicants to participate in the Institute for Responsible Citizen (i4rc.org).  These summers were formative for developing the program model as he received logistical training from Elijah Heyward III, Director of the Youth Scholar Academy (YSA) in Washington, D.C.  Porter was in the inaugural cohort to develop and lead YSA.  In July 2010, they hosted nineteen high school scholars from Kauffman Scholars, Inc. (KSI), an initiative sponsored by the Ewing Marrion Kauffman Foundation.  This was and continues to be an inspirational model of the Gospel Institute.
